No, I didn’t have my fingers on the wrong home keys when I wrote that. NaNoWriMo is really a thing. It stands for National Novel Writing Month, and it has been going for quite a long time. They describe themselves as ‘a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing’. One of my clients always does it (it seems that it’s usually November) and finds it very helpful. To be perfectly honest, I’ve always been put off by the name! It sounds to me like those rhino police in Dr Who – the Judoon – and always makes me think of the episode where they made David Tennant speak their language. I always reckon that they did it just to wind him up.
Anyway, back to … well you know what I mean. I had a look at the site (url below) and it turns out it’s a great scheme. So I signed up. I have had a novel in the planning stage for some time, but launching Dieudonne and getting my website up and running, not to mention the editing, hasn’t left me much time. Well, that’s my excuse anyway. So I am using this opportunity to stop procrastinating and get on with it. I’m actually really enjoying it. I’ve not managed the suggested word count per day yet, but I’ve managed to write something each day, which is very exciting. The title of the book is – at the moment anyway – Critical Care – and it is essentially a whodunnit based in a hospital, with the primary character being a Hospital Chaplain with a secret in her past, ably assisted by her detective inspector husband.
If you want to look up the scheme for yourself, you can find it at nanowrimo.org. Good luck!
